Where to Play : Beaches

Baileys Harbor has several wonderful beaches, both on Lake Michigan and Kangaroo Lake.

Anclam Beach

Located on the south end of town, Anclam Beach is a family place. The park has restrooms, picnic tables, a semi shaded sitting area and paved parking lot. Whether you are watching the kids splash in the shallows or watching the kite boarders skim across the harbor, you will be happy you chose Anclam Beach.

Kangaroo Lake Beach Access and the South End

Kangaroo Lake is a wonderful spot to swim because the water warms up weeks before Lake Michigan. Located west of Baileys Harbor, you have the peacefulness of a secluded lake that's only minutes out of town. Take Cty E west over the causeway and take the first left onto West Kangaroo Lake Rd. Take the next left onto Kangaroo Lake Beach Rd and you will see the water access. It's a perfect place to launch a kayak, set up some lawn chairs in the water, or splash around in the clear waters.

If you are visiting Baileys Harbor with a power boat, launch it on Kangaroo Lake and head for the South End. The no wake zone located at the end of the lake is the perfect spot to anchor up, set up a picnic and spend the afternoon playing volleyball, frisbee or catch. Sunday afternoons are very popular with locals and visitors alike so get there early to get a good spot.

Ridges Beach

Ridges Beach is a wide sandy beach located on the edge of the Ridges Sanctuary on Ridges Rd. There are on site bathrooms for your convenience. The beach is by far the largest in town and offers a panoramic view of Baileys Harbor.

Run out to the first, second, or third sand bars if you can brave the sometimes brisk Lake Michigan waters. Sit on the beach and stare offshore as kayakers glide by, kite boarders take off, or boats leaving the marina head out for a day on the water.

The sprawling beach is perfect for picnics, building a sand castle, or cooling off in the cool water.
